Privacy Policy

This describes what Usher collects when you use it, why, and what we do (and don't do) with it. Usher is an early-stage product built by a small team, so treat this as an honest account of current practice rather than a document written by a large legal department, it will get more formal as the product does.

What we collect

When you create an Usher account:

• Your name and email address, from Google sign-in
• The apps you deploy: the code or files you point us at, and basic metadata about each deployment
• Usage data needed to run the service: deploy counts, app status, and API activity if you use the CLI

If you turn on sign-in for an app you deploy:

• The name and email of each person who signs into that app, shown to you as your app's audience, and exportable by you at any time

We don't currently run advertising trackers or sell any of this data. We plan to add basic, privacy-respecting analytics later, to understand how the product is used in aggregate, not to track individuals across other sites, and this policy will be updated if that changes in a way that affects you.

Cookies

Usher uses one essential cookie to keep you signed in. It's not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Why we collect it

To run your account, deploy and host your apps, show you your own app's audience if you enable sign-in, and enforce the usage limits described in our Terms of Service. That's it.

Who else sees it

We use reputable third-party providers to actually run the infrastructure behind Usher, cloud hosting, database hosting, and transactional email, and those providers process data on our behalf to make the service work. We don't sell your data or your app's audience data to anyone, for any purpose.

Isolation between apps and accounts

Every app you deploy runs in its own separate space. It can't reach your other accounts or files, and it can't reach another user's app or data. Your account's data is likewise kept separate from every other account's.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and app data for as long as your account is active. If your app uses a database we provision for you, that storage is meant for building, testing, and sharing, not as permanent backed-up storage, see our Terms of Service for what that means in practice. Deleting your account removes your deployed apps and their data.

Your choices

You can export your app's audience data at any time. You can tear down any app, revoke any API token, or delete your account entirely, and doing so removes the associated data from active use.

Children

Usher isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

As Usher grows, we'll update this policy to reflect what actually changes, particularly once analytics or new integrations are added, and we'll update the date at the top when we do.
